The Alabama State Department of Education, Special Education Services (SES) Section, Montgomery, intends to fill multiple Retired State Employee (RSE) positions. The Special Education Services Section intends to fill positions to provide instructional support, coaching, monitoring, or technical assistance at specified locations. Extensive travel may be required, depending on the assignment.

Duties of RSE’s assigned to work alongside an SES Team may include, but will not be limited to the following:

  1. Assist local education agencies (LEAs) in determining compliance with federal and state laws in building a continuous improvement process focused on improving outcomes for serving students with disabilities.
  2. Participate in ongoing monitoring activities emphasizing collecting and analyzing required data, designing specialized instruction, and providing appropriate services and support for students, including students with disabilities.
  3. Assist LEAs with fiscal requirements under the IDEA and Education Department General Administrative Regulations (EDGAR).
  4. Create technical assistance documents and develop training and resources.
  5. Provide consultation and/or technical assistance to multiple districts under the direction of the SES section staff.
  6. Participate and attend all training programs provided by the ALSDE intended to support the scope of the assigned position.
  7. Other duties as assigned.

Duties of RSEs assigned to serve as a coach and/or selected to provide field support may include, but are not limited to the following:

  1. Provide instructional coaching to special education/general education teachers and other entities, as needed.
  2. Provide consultation to LEA administrators, teachers, and school staff.
  3. Participate and attend all training programs provided by the ALSDE intended to support the scope of the assigned position.
  4. Other duties as assigned.

Education:

  • • A minimum of a Master’s degree from an accredited college or university is required.

Experience:

  • A minimum of five (5) years of teaching experience required.
  • Experience in working with administration, special education, reading, secondary transition, and/or instructional coaching experience preferred.

  • Understanding of policies, laws, and guidelines related to special education including the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and individualized education programs (IEPs).
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
