The AMSTI Section of the State Department of Education is seeking an Education Specialist I to assist AMSTI with the implementation of Grades Kindergarten through fifth math, with an emphasis on Grades K-2.
Duties will include, but will not be limited to the following:
- Provides oversight and technical assistance to AMSTI
- Plans, organizes, and implements AMSTI math training sessions
- Develops, organizes, and implements professional development activities for AMSTI
- Collaborates with the Office of Mathematics Improvement for implementation and support of the Alabama Numeracy Act
- Assists with managing AMSTI summer institutes
- Completes SDE correspondence, reports, proposals, and administrative documents, etc.
- Assists the AMSTI staff in developing AMSTI timelines, regional staff professional
learning agendas, and training revisions - Assists with the AMSTI equipment and materials to support AMSTI math activities
- Provides specialized training to AMSTI site staff and other entities
- Designs and writes and/or coordinates the designing and writing of AMSTI materials
- Assists with AMSTI partnerships, both internal and external to the state department
Education:
- Master’s Degree from a regionally accredited college or university in education, teacher leader, instructional leadership, school counseling, or other related education specialty area.
Experience:
- Five years of professional experience in teaching, education administration, or a related assignment. School- and district-level leadership and/or coaching experience, with a proven record of systemic change related to student learning and achievement, is preferred.

- Ability to deliver presentations to professional audiences
- Familiar with recent research-based strategies, materials, and models
