Position Title: Education Administrator I
Position Code: 30123
Salary Range: $58,111.20 – $125,304.00
Position Location: Special Education Services, Gordon Persons Building, Montgomery
Open Date: November 2024
The Special Education Services (SES) Section of the Alabama State Department of Education (ALSDE) in Montgomery, intends to fill up to two (2) Education Administrator I positions.
Duties will include, but will not be limited to the following:
- Creates and oversees the assigned special education team’s workflow by defming goals, communicating objectives, and monitoring team performance.
- Supervises subordinates so that work is monitored, and department goals are met by proper use of counseling, performance coaching, appraisal, and other management tools.
- Develops, implements, and oversees assigned special education projects so that problems are identified, addressed, and resolved.
- Communicates information orally and written, effectively and efficiently with others (e.g., staff, the public, school district staff, and state agency officials).
- Effectively leads and supervises assigned staff to ensure each staff member has assigned duties and is meeting deadlines.
- Reviews, proofs, and edits documents without direct supervision so that information is accurate in content, format, and style.
- Drafts and maintains policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with applicable local, state, and federal laws.
- Produces agency memos, fact sheets, research reports, handbooks, and manuals.
- Mentors staff and conducts performance evaluations that are timely and constructive.
- Facilitates a productive work environment that fosters teamwork among SES staff and other state agency staff.
- Collaborates with individuals in the section, department, and other agencies so that common goals are achieved, and strategic partnerships are formed.
- Makes informed and timely decisions that align with the broader vision of the organization with a mixture of analysis, wisdom, experience, and judgment.
- Utilizes office software programs to increase efficiency in correspondence, communication, and meeting deadlines.
- Faces challenges, seeks solutions, admits mistakes, and accepts responsibility for shortcomings.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Education:
- Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university in special education ( or a field directly related to special education e.g., educational leadership, psychometry, or school psychology).
Experience:
- Minimum of six years of professional experience in teaching, education administration, or a related assignment.
- Minimum of four years of professional experience in special education ( or a field directly related to special education e.g., educational leadership, psychometry, or school psychology).

- Excellent speaking and presentation skills.
- Ability to create and present ideas in a variety of formats.
- Ability to maintain confidential records.
- Thorough understanding of special education needs and services.
- Understanding of effective teaching methods.
- Understanding of policies, laws, and guidelines related to special education including the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and individualized education programs (IEPs).
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
