The AMSTI Section of the State Department of Education will hire an Education Specialist I to assist AMSTI with the implementation of K-12 Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) and Digital Literacy and Computer Science(DLCS).
Duties will include, but will not be limited to the following:
- Organize and oversee the logistics of professional learning for AMSTI STEM/DLCS professional learning.
- Research, design, and coordinate professional learning opportunities and support for a variety of audiences to support STEM and DLCS, the shared STEM vision for AMSTI, and the implementation of the Alabama Courses of Study in STEM content areas.
- Facilitate discussions, professional learning opportunities, and support for integrated STEM and DLCS with a variety of audiences including, but not limited to AMSTI site staff, administrators, schools and teachers.
- Develop and maintain resources in any combination of STEM related subjects for teachers which are accurate, well-organized, and classroom ready.
- Communicate, plan, and organize projects within the ALSDE and with other partners, vendors, and stakeholders, including robotics grant processes, to successfully fulfill Department projects within designated timeframes.
- Support and assist AMSTI sites and LEAs, so that designated personnel are accurately informed on STEM-specific issues and AMSTI Menu of Services, to include, but not limited to, coaching.
- Complete and communicate correspondence and other information in a clear, accurate, and timely manner, according to departmental policies, and so section goals are met.
- Represent AMSTI at state and national events and travel, sometimes extensively, to fulfill job duties.
- Collaborate to develop, maintain, and troubleshoot the AMSTI website, AMSTI Social Media platforms and the AMSTI Google Workspace for Education resources.
Education:
- Master’s Degree from a regionally accredited college or university in education, teacher leader, instructional leadership, school counseling, or other related education specialty area.
Experience:
- Five years of professional experience in STEM-related teaching, education administration, or a related assignment. School- and district-level leadership and/or coaching experience, with a proven record of systemic change related to student learning and achievement, is preferred.

- Strong computer skills, including the ability to develop and utilize spreadsheets and databases, to manage web pages, utilize multiple education-related applications, and to work fluently in G Suite

- Must be team-oriented, flexible, and a self-starter
- Ability to deliver presentations to professional audiences
- Familiar with recent research-based strategies, materials, and models
