Salary Range: (5057) $24,693.60 – $45,758.40

Position Location: Child Nutrition Programs, Gordon Persons Building, Montgomery, Alabama

The Child Nutrition Programs/Child and Adult Care/Summer Food School Programs Section of the Alabama State Department of Education (ALSDE) intends to fill two (2) State Intern CNP Nutrition Assistant positions.

Duties will include, but will not be limited to the following:

  • Training Development and Conducting: Develop and conduct training on nutrition, menus, wellness, and fresh fruits and vegetable consumption for school nutrition professionals.
  • Menu and Recipe Development: Assist with menu and recipe development programs to enhance school meal offerings, improve participation, and utilize a wide variety of USDA Foods. Ensure that menus meet USDA meal patterns, appeal to student preferences, and can be prepared with minimal equipment and staff. Evaluate recipes with school food service professionals and students to ensure broad appeal.
  • Hands-On Nutrition Instruction: Conduct hands-on nutrition instruction for school food service professionals, including demonstrating recipe development.
  • Culinary Programs Support: Assist with school nutrition-specific culinary programs, including student chef competitions.
  • Regulation and Policy Interpretation: Interpret applicable federal, state, and departmental regulations and policies.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Collaborate and communicate with allied organizations, including the Alabama Department of Public Health, as assigned.
  • Travel and Continuous Learning: Travel to attend state meetings and conferences. Stay up-to-date with current research, trends, regulations, and programs to gain expertise.

Education:

Required Skills/ Abilities:

  • Strong understanding of financial principles and regulatory compliance.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Willingness to travel as required.
