Salary Range: (7680) $56,971.20-$122,846.40 (This salary does not include the COLA effective 9/1/2024)

Position Location: Alabama Math, Science, and Technology Initiative (AMSTI) Montgomery, AL or Birmingham, AL

The AMSTI Section of the Alabama State Department of Education intends to fill one (1) Education Administrator I position for K-5 Science.

Duties will include, but will not be limited to the following:

  • Supervise and oversee the development and distribution of secondary science support resources for the Alabama Course of Study standards and best practices in science instruction.
  • Supervise and oversee the development and delivery of both asynchronous and synchronous professional learning opportunities which support LEA implementation of current K-5 Alabama Course of Study: Science standards and best practices in science instruction.
  • Supervise and oversee the development of on-site support structures and delivery of assistance to LEAs for implementation of current K-5 Alabama Course of Study: Science standards and best practices in science instruction.
  • Supervise and oversee the development of grade-level units of instruction for improved LEA implementation of current K-5 Alabama Course of Study: Science standards and best practices in science instruction.
  • Communicate, collaborate, and coordinate with regional AMSTI sites in their provision of quality and efficient technical assistance and service to LEAs, holding LEAs accountable, and to meet ALSDE and AMSTI strategic goals.
  • Provide administrative and supervisory responsibility for assigned instructional programs in the respective content standards.
  • Work collaboratively within AMSTI and other Office of Student Learning sections to develop an action plan to deliver, expand, and continuously improve services to LEAs related to comprehensive support for implementation of the current ACOS: Science standards, best practice for science instruction, and to meet ALSDE and AMSTI strategic goals.
  • Coordinate the collection, analysis, interpretation, and use of date to inform decisions related to AMSTI and other STEM curricula, professional development, and classroom instruction.
  • Adhere and follow all state requirements to monitor assigned employees, create professional learning plans for their performance and growth, complete appraisals to raise staff professionalism or provide progressive discipline as needed, complete reports, and any other requirements.
  • Collaborates with other ALSDE sections and outside entities on assigned projects and support aligned to the ALSDE Strategic Plan, Alabama Achieves, and focus areas from the Office of Student Learning such that the assigned responsibilities of the projects are completed and/or implemented successfully.
  • Travel in-state and out-of-state is required.

  • Math and Science content
  • Ensure that all areas of AMSTI are represented within curriculum modules and professional development, as defined in Courses of Study (Science, Math, and Computer Science/Digital Literacy). Candidates should be able to develop a strategic plan that builds upon the awareness of curriculum and expertise in supervising staff with content knowledge in Computer Science and Engineering
  • Experience teaching AMSTI topics
  • New and innovative approaches to measuring educational progress

Education:

Experience:

  • Minimum six years professional experience in teaching, education administration, or a related assignment.
