The Student Assessment Section of the Alabama State Department of Education in Montgomery intends to employ one (1) Education Specialist I position.

Duties will include, but will not be limited to the following:

  • Manage Alabama’s English language proficiency assessments (WIDA ACCESS/or Ells, WIDA Alternate ACCESS/or Ells, and WIDA Screeners).
  • Collaborate on department projects and initiatives with section and department staff in order to educate stakeholders in program areas that will work to increase student achievement.
  • Develop and deliver training materials including handbooks and documents (i.e., informational bulletins, PowerPoints, Webinars, Webcasts) to be used by LEA personnel that are directly related to the administration of the WIDA suite of assessments.
  • Prepare ALSDE reports, memorandums, and administrative documents.
  • Prepare ALSDE correspondence to Local Education Agencies (LEAs).
  • Work directly with the assessment vendors to plan, implement, and oversee the assessment program for the English proficiency assessments.
  • Work directly with educational and administrative staff in the LEA to address issues pertaining to test administration, administrative issues within the assessment portal, test delivery, and data collection.
  • Conduct data validation to ensure valid and reliable results.
  • Analyze state data for accuracy, and work with assessment vendors to address and amend any issues.
  • Monitor test administration and test security in LEAs. In state travel will be a requirement for this position.
  • Provide technical assistance and support to LEAs.
  • Serve as a state participant on various sub-committees hosted by the assessment vendor and by the ALSDE and participate in various national collaborative groups as a state participant.
  • Utilize software programs to increase efficiency in correspondence, communication, and meeting deadlines so that section goals are met as observed by supervisor.
  • Assist in proof reading, as well as, composing documents/correspondence/e-mails/memoranda to ensure that materials are correct in content, format, and style.
  • Follow state and section guidelines for required travel to LEAs, meetings, and conferences.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:

  • Master’s Degree from a regionally accredited college or university in an approved subject matter or education specialty area.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of professional experience in teaching, education administration, or a related assignment.
  • Knowledge and experience with English Language proficiency assessments is required.
  • Working knowledge and experience with test administration preferred.
