Position Title: Education Specialist I
Position Code: 30122
Salary Range: $50,253.60 – $102,664.80
Position Location: Support Services Section, Montgomery or Birmingham
Open Date: October 2024
The Support Services Section of the Alabama State Department of Education is seeking candidates to fill three (3) Education Specialist I positions.
Duties will include, but will not be limited to the following:
- Assist in the management of the accountability system and programs in the areas of School Safety, Title IV, 504 and the Safety Task Force.
- Assist in the analysis and interpretation of school safety data
- Develop validation procedures to ensure accuracy in the reporting of results within the safety portal
- Develop presentations, handbooks and training materials
- Plan, organize, and implement professional development activities (per the law)
- Attend required School Safety trainings, meetings and necessary site visits
- Complete ALSDE reports, proposals, and administrative documents as appropriate
- Prepare ALSDE correspondence to LEAs
- Provide technical assistance to local education agency and school personnel
- Other duties as assigned
Education:
- A minimum of Master’s degree from an accredited college or university
- Five (5) years of professional experience in teaching, education administration or a related assignment
Experience:
- Experience in all areas of school safety
- Research and data analysis experience required
- Statistical analysis experience preferred but not required
- Knowledge and experience with the school safety portal preferred but not required
- Computer related skills required – Microsoft Office (all programs)
- Computer skills preferred – Microsoft and Google, as well as any other technical based programs

- Possess strong motivational skills
- Ability to work independently on multiple assignments
- Ability to use problem-solving skills to generate solutions
- Knowledge and experience in training
- Ability to work well with other staff members, and LEAs
