Position Title: Education Specialist I
Position Code: 30122
Salary Range: $50,253.60 – $102,664.80
Position Location: Educational Technology Section, Montgomery or Birmingham, AL
Open Date: January 2025
The Educational Technology Section, Montgomery or Birmingham office, intends to fill one (1) Education Specialist I position.
Duties will include, but will not be limited to the following:
- Coordinate the alabamastandards.org portal
- Coordinate and facilitate professional learning opportunities related to the alabamastandards.org portal and the Alabama Learning Exchange (ALEX) program
- Provide onsite/offsite technical assistance to LEAs so that technical issues are resolved
- Provide support in the development, planning and implementation of EdTech professional development activities, including the coordination of the Alabama Educational Technology Conference (AETC)
- Contribute to all phases of the Alabama Courses of Study development
- Collaborate with the ALSDE CTE section to collect content standards, unpacked content, plans of instruction, and curriculum related resources for dissemination through the ALEX web portal
- Lead the Girls Engaged in Math and Science (GEMS) initiative to plan, organize, conduct yearly events and activities aligned to the ALEX program mission
- Review and edit contracts, reports, proposals, correspondence, and other documents in the Educational Technology section
- Assist with various EdTech programs to ensure goals of the section are met
- Collaborate across SDE sections to assist in the alignment of instructional materials to the Course of Study Standards and provide input on the integration of components with the ALEX web portal
- Represent the ALSDE and LEAs in state and national stakeholder groups
- Serve on state level task forces and various ad hoc committees as needed
- Lead professional development activities for the Exploring Today’s Classroom initiative
- Travel required (in-state and out-of-state)
Education and Experience:
- Master’s Degree from a regionally accredited college or university in an approved subject matter or education specialty area
- Minimum of six years’ experience in education required
- Experience as an education specialist, technology integration coach, technology coordinator, and/or curriculum director preferred
- Knowledge and experience in training
- Knowledge and experience in the use of ALEX and alabamastandards.org required
- Computer related skills required – Microsoft Office and Google Workspace
- Working with Computer Applications preferred
