Salary Range: $50,253.60 – $102,664.80

Position Location: Educator Certification, Montgomery

The Alabama State Department of Education (ALSDE) Educator Certification Section intends to fill one (1) Education Specialist I position.

Duties will include, but will not be limited to the following:

  • Advise applicants, local education agency (LEA) officials, institution of higher education (IHE) officials, and other stakeholders in interpreting and implementing current certification regulations
  • Manage and facilitate Career and Technical Education (CTE) Certification regarding rules (Administrative Code, forms, etc.) and procedures.
  • Advise, train, and assist colleagues, LEAs, and CTE Coordinators with submitting and processing CTE applications.
  • Review professional credentials and certification qualifications of individuals seeking Alabama certification
  • Research professional credentials offered by other states and agencies to determine comparability
  • Create, maintain, and review office databases containing various essential sources to determine eligibility for Alabama certification and data collection
  • Create assorted forms of correspondence to applicants, LEAs, IHEs, and stakeholders regarding various certification needs, requirements, procedures, policies, etc.
  • Create, compose, proof, and edit certification forms, supplements, documents, etc., to ensure thorough and accurate certification information provided aligns with the Alabama Administrative Code and State Superintendent Memorandums
  • Conduct research, analyze data regarding best practices/current trends, compile reports, and make recommendations based on research findings
  • Exercise critical thinking in reading and interpreting various statutory documents, such as the Alabama Administrative Code, legislative bills, etc. to develop and implement policies and procedures
  • Keep abreast of state and federal regulations regarding Alabama certification
  • Monitor LEA compliance of State regulations
  • Research, retrieve, and compile data for and prepare reports and recommendations required by the District, State, and/or Federal Agencies
  • Provide training, workshops, seminars, and conferences as required or appropriate to enhance job knowledge and skills of human resource personnel, curriculum directors, and college of education personnel
  • Determine eligibility for advanced pay based on an earned advanced degree
  • Respond in detail to phone calls, emails, and written correspondence from LEAs, IHEs, applicants and stakeholders pertaining to Alabama certification and testing requirements
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Education:

  • Minimum of a master’s degree from an accredited college or university in an approved subject matter or education specialty area

Experience:

  • Five (5) years of professional experience in teaching, education administration, or a related assignment
  • Advanced computer skills required Microsoft Office
