Health education is a part of the Instructional Services department at the Alabama State Department of Education. Instructional Services is responsible for providing support to teachers and schools throughout the state in the implementation of the Health Education Course of Study. We provide health education professional learning and resources that align to the curriculum to help Local Education Agencies make data-informed decisions.
An exceptional health and physical education program enhances the quality and productivity of life that can be achieved through comprehensive, collaborative, and sequential learning. Studies have shown that physical activity can help improve academic achievement and have a positive impact on cognitive skills, attitudes, concentration, readiness to learn, and classroom behavior.
