Purpose

The purpose of the Committee of Practitioners (CoP) is to advise the Alabama Department of Education (ALSDE) in carrying out its responsibilities under Title I and other federally funded programs. The CoP is a statutory requirement established under section 1603(b) of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA), as reauthorized by the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) of 2015.
Membership

Appointed by the Alabama Department of Education, CoP members are Alabama residents who have knowledge of and/or demonstrated experience in implementing the provisions of federal law pertaining to Title I and other federal programs. Pursuant to section 1603(b) of ESSA, the CoP must be comprised of the following such stakeholders:
- Administrators
- Charter school leaders
- Members of local school boards
- Paraprofessionals
- Parents
- Principals and other school leaders
- Representatives from local educational agencies (LEAs)
- Representatives of charter agencies
- Representatives of private school children
- Specialized instructional support personnel
- Teachers (representing both traditional public and charter schools)

Meetings

Meetings will be held in January, April, and September of each year. The CoP may also be called to attend emergency/special meetings to assist with time-sensitive matters. Meetings will be virtual.
