The Career and Technical Education -Work-Based Learning (WBL) Coordinator is for individuals who hold a valid Alabama Professional Educator Certificate in a career and technical education teaching field, Bachelor’s Equivalent 2 or higher Career and Technical Certificate, or a Professional Leadership Certificate and meet certain experience and coursework requirements may seek additional Alabama Professional Educator Certificate as a Work Based Learning Coordinator.

The Career and Technical Education -Temporary Certificates cannot be requested by an individual. The Career and Technical Education Temporary Certificate may ONLY be requested by an employing Alabama county/city superintendent for an individual who meets outlined requirements. This is a two-year certificate that can be reissued once if requirements are met. This certificate does not lead to the Degree Equivalent Certificate or to Alabama professional certification.

The Career and Technical Certificate Degree Equivalent – Technical Education route allows individuals to progress through five levels of certification. The Degree Equivalent Technical Education initial certificate (Bachelor’s Equivalent 1) must be requested by an employing city/county superintendent in certain 6-12 career and technical program areas. This route offers the opportunity to advance toward higher pay when requirements are met for each level of certification.

The Career and Technical Certificate – Additional Teaching Field – Degree Equivalent is for individuals seeking additional certification in a selected technical education program(s) if: 1. A valid Bachelor’s Equivalent 2 or higher Degree Equivalent Certificate is held; AND 2. The appropriate and valid Alabama State Department of Education approved Occupational Proficiency Assessment is held.

The Career and Technical Certificate to Professional Educator Certificate is for individuals holding an appropriate Degree EquivalentTechnical Education Career and Technical Certificate in a technical education program, or health science. Individuals may meet requirements for a Class B Secondary Professional Educator Certificate in health science or the technical education program area reflected on the Degree Equivalent Technical Education Certificate.

The Career and Technical Certificate Degree Equivalent – Health Science route allows individuals to progress through four levels of certification. The Degree Equivalent Health Science initial certificate (Bachelor’s Equivalent 1) must be requested by an employing city/county superintendent in health science. This route offers the opportunity to advance toward higher pay when requirements are met for each level of certification.
