Speech Language Pathology Certificates

The Speech/Language Pathology Assistant Certificate may ONLY be requested by an employing Alabama county/city superintendent for an individual who has earned at least a bachelor’s degree (in speech-language pathology or communication sciences and disorders with a speech-language emphasis) and has met testing requirements. This certificate does not lead to Alabama professional certification

The Speech/Language Pathology Temporary Certificate may ONLY be requested by an employing Alabama county/city superintendent for an individual who has completed at least a master’s degree level speech-language pathology program that was accredited by the Council on Academic Accreditation in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology (CAA) of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) at the time of program completion; OR Completed at least a master’s degree level speech-language pathology program that was in candidacy status of accreditation by the Council on Academic Accreditation (CAA) of the American Speech-Language Hearing Association (ASHA) at the time of program completion and has met testing requirements.

The Speech-Language Pathology Professional Educator Certificate Approach is available for an individual to serve as a Speech-Language Pathologist in grades P-12. An individual who is licensed as a speech language pathologist by a state board of examiners in speech pathology and audiology may meet requirements for Alabama certification.
